FAQs

A Civil Celebrant is someone who is trained to officiate at ceremonies such as weddings and funerals, who is not attached to any particular religion. Celebrants can create personalised ceremonies for you and do not have to follow any set wording.
A Civil Celebrant can include religious elements such as prayers or hymns in your ceremony if you wish, whereas a Humanist Celebrant will not include any religious elements.
Currently, a Celebrant cannot legally marry you. So if you choose a Celebrant-led wedding, you will still need to have a legal wedding at the Register Office prior to your Ceremony. Usually couples just attend themselves, and will need 2 witnesses. I will advise you on this. And then you can have your personalised, bespoke Ceremony afterwards, exactly as you would like it to be. You will then be able to say your vows to each other in front of your friends and family, and have a wonderful celebration of your love for each other.
Apart from consecrated ground, you can have your Celebrant-led wedding anywhere! As long as you have the landowner’s permission, you can get married in a wood, on the beach, in a field, or of course in a hotel or pub.
